Exercise changed my body shape and gave me a whole new level of confidence...

I haven’t always enjoyed exercise – Growing up I had very little self-confidence because of some of the mean comments I received about my small body and how I looked. I didn’t want to exercise because I thought it would make me lose weight and become even smaller. However, I did love to dance and, at University, I joined the cheerleading team. Then it was a combination of wanting to become a stronger cheerleader and wanting to shape my body that got me into regular training at the gym. I became familiar with weight training and stayed lean while gaining strength and a body shape that I had never had before.

As my body grew stronger so did my self-confidence. I became a dance coach for the cheerleading team as well as a dance coach for themed hen party dance classes and soon discovered my love for coaching and instructing. And this is why I do what I do now. I love helping others gain confidence too, whether it’s confidence in their bodies, confidence moving after an injury, or confidence to dance their heart out.

To me, fitness is about the enjoyment of getting moving and most of all, having fun

Fun for me comes from doing what I love. Whether I am teaching indoor cycling, group exercise and dance classes, or one to one personal training sessions, I always have a smile on my face. Seeing class members and clients make noticeable progress in their health and well-being is definitely something to smile about! I am also very creative and really enjoy designing classes and workouts that are fun, motivating and work around people’s needs and abilities.

Technique is Everything

When I started working out I had no experience whatsoever in a gym and worked with a personal trainer myself. I was taught to learn the basics before I moved on to more challenging exercises. This worked well for me so this is the way I work in my teaching now. I believe it’s important to encourage people to work at their own pace and to their own ability whilst performing good technique. Anyone will tell you, I do love a challenge so you will often see me in the gym, or on social media, doing weird and wonderful things!
